My Eventual List of Favorite Video Games will Happen (Eventually)

Nester

You may or may not remember that in my Christmas blog I said I would probably get around to my list of favorite video games sometime in late March, and try to get some of my fellow bloggers to do the same around that time so we can all link our lists to one another.

Well, I hate to say that I’ve decided to delay my list for a wee bit, and that now I’m thinking sometime in May is more realistic of an expectation. I’ve decided to add the extra time to give my fellow bloggers a little more time to come up with their own lists. Yeah, that’s why I’m doing it. It has nothing to do with my own indecisiveness or anything…

Okay, well maybe it does a little. As I said before, making a list of favorite video games is a big deal for someone like me. I’ve never officially made such a list before, and I think it’s the kind of thing you can only revise after a few years, as to not make the initial list feel superfluous. So I want to be satisfied with the list I make the first time around.

I actually know most of the games I’ll include, but ordering them is another matter. As is filling out the last couple of spots. Again, I’m gunning for a top 30, but I still don’t know if numbers 21 through 30 will be numbered or not.

Once again, the following blogs have been invited to participate.

Nintendobound

The After Story

Very Very Gaming

Extra Life Reviews

Once again, none of these blogs are required to partake in this endeavor if they don’t want to (I unfortunately do not have the power or authority to make others do my bidding). But if they want to join in, awesome! They don’t have to make a top 30 like myself, they can do their lists however they like (though a minimum of top 10 is recommended).

Also, if any other gaming blogs want to join in, that’d be cool as well!

Again, look forward to my list sometime in May. Probably.

    1. I realized I myself probably needed more time, especially since I might dedicate some of the later portions of March to Miyazaki films (personal history, you see). Glad I could make it all easier. 😛

I actually really enjoyed The Last of Us for the most part. I just feel it was a “manufactured Game of the Year” in a lot of ways (if that makes sense), and that people were ready to call it one of the best games ever even before its release, no matter how it would turn out. But overall I really did enjoy it (especially the multiplayer).

      1. Yes! I should definitely be okay for May 🙂 and don’t worry, I’ll definitely give DKC 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest and Banjo Kazooie ago before writing my list! I’m almost done a Link to the Past too! Just got to complete Ganon’s Tower! Oh sweet! Are you just gonna do Miyazaki films or do you plan on doing Ghibli in general? Because off the top of my head, I don’t believe Grave of Fireflies is directed by Miyazaki. Either way, I’m looking forward to that list 😀
Yeah, I can totally see that, honestly they were building it up to be “one of the greatest games of all time” and because of that, I thought it was going to fail 😛 But once the reviews started rolling in, I was surprised believe it or not. And after giving it a go, very few games have had me as emotionally invested as the Last of Us. As amazing the story was, what truly left an impact were the characters and their development. I love the game because by the end of it, I felt slightly empty, it was very bitter, similar to the ending of Grave of Fireflies but nearly as traumatic!!!! Just the bitter sensation was similar, I think that was what Naughty Dog were intending to do. I feel like I’m just incoherently rambling 😛 I feel that person I need to explain my love for the last of us to is Extra Life/Red Metal 😛

      2. Glad to know May will (probably) work out. I just hope it will for the other bloggers as well.

Don’t forget to add Tropical Freeze to that lineup! Because Tropical Freeze. Also Super Mario RPG if you can get a hold of it (I have a feeling it should be coming to the US/Canadian Virtual Console on Wii U in not too long, seeing as it was recently released in Japan and Europe). And Symphony of the Night. Okay. I’ll stop now.

You are correct, Grave of the Fireflies was directed by Isao Takahata, not Miyazaki. March may be a Ghibli month, but with a particular emphasis on Miyazaki’s work. I may do one or two other Ghbili reviews before then though.

Oh, believe me, I understand where you’re coming from with The Last of Us. I have a couple of issues with it, but I can completely respect your feelings for it. Now, Bioshock Infinite, on the other hand…

  1. That’s the thing, isn’t it? The higher the number is on any given “Top [#]” list, the more arbitrary the position becomes.

I’m kind of torn on whether or not I want to reveal my top fourteen (or so) because I don’t want to spoil which games I would award a 10/10. On the other hand, I’m not sure if I plan on reviewing all of those games. I’ll have to get back to you on this one.

    1. Definitely. Top fives and tens make perfect sense. And even a top fifteen you could say that the additional five are the close runners-up. Even sixteen through twenty make a bit of sense (though I think at that point their order means very little). But who honestly has a twenty-third or twenty-seventh favorite game? I’m determined to make a top 30 list for some reason, but I think I’m leaning towards numbers 21-30 simply being non-numbered.

Hey, don’t worry about it. If you want to do it, cool. If not, that’s cool too! I also feel like I’ll be spoiling some of my 10s and 9.5s, but who knows how long it will take for me to get around to reviewing all of them individually. I’ll probably review another 10 or two before then just because, but some I’ll be reviewing after the fact.
