350 Video Game Reviews!!

Jeepers, Shaggy! Have I really amassed three-hundred and fifty video game reviews?!

Indeed I have, Kevin. My recent review of Super Mario Maker 2 was the big 3-5-0. We should dance now!

Admittedly, my reviews have slowed down considerably over time. In Wizard Dojo’s first year, from Christmas Day 2014 to Christmas of 2015, I reviewed one-hundred video games alone! And seeing as my 300th video game review was in June of 2018, and now we’re at the end of August 2019 and I’ve added 50 game reviews in that time…yeah, I’ve slowed down a bit.

I apologize for that, my beautiful readers. I will try to rectify this in the future and achieve some semblance of a steady pace in regards to my reviews. At least I’ve started to pick up the pace on my movie reviews (somewhat). Though my movie reviews still have some good catching up to do…

While I wish I could promise a “100 game reviews per year” pace, I’m afraid that’s just not possible under current circumstances. Unless I just prioritize reviewing older, shorter games. Which I’ll probably do anyway because, as I’ve said in the past, modern games are just getting too damn long! And it doesn’t even make much sense when you thin about it. Back when video games were primarily targeted at a younger audience, they were shorter. But now that they emphasize the adult crowd more, they’re way, way longer. Don’t children have more time to play games? What’s the deal here?

Oh boy, I’m rambling again. What else is new, right?

Anyway, the point of this (largely unnecessary) post is to give myself a pat on the back because I wrote enough of a certain thing to reach a certain number. Huzzah!

You may have noticed that I try to go with something ‘special’ for every 50th game review (though because I’m impatient, not every ‘special’ review has to wait until another fifty mark). So far, these ‘milestone games’ look like this.

#50: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (my first 10/10 scoring game)

#100: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

#150: Mario Kart 64

#200: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

#250: Sonic Mania

#300: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

#350: Super Mario Maker 2

Admittedly, Mario Kart 64 is kind of the odd man out of the bunch. I mean, it’s a special game to me because of the countless hours poured into it during my childhood, but it’s not near the level of timeless quality as my other milestone games. I know, some people still like to say it’s the best Mario Kart to this day, but it isn’t. Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe) is the best Mario Kart. Facts.

The others, I feel, don’t need justification for my selecting them as milestone games. Though I have to say, Breath of the Wild managing to become my 200th game review was all thanks to exceptional timing. I just happened to be close enough to two-hundred by the time I was playing Breath of the Wild that it was just to good of an opportunity to pass up.

I wonder, pray tell, what will be the big 4-0-0? Hopefully, it won’t quite take me fourteen-ish months to find out.

Also, you may have noticed (but probably not) that I’ve been shuffling some of my review scores to certain games and movies. Notably, I’ve altered a couple of my 10/10 games to 9/10s for the time being. No, that doesn’t mean I think less of those games than I did before, just that I’m once again meditating on what I want a 10/10 game to be coming from me on this site. After all, I’ve never questioned the four movies I’ve scored 10/10, because I can confidently say they are without a doubt some of my favorites. But with games I’ve juggled a bit on whether I truly think some of the 10s I’ve given are better than the ‘most elite’ 9s. I’ll write something more in-depth on this soon. Sorry for my wishy-washiness.

So yes, three-hundred and fifty video game reviews. I hate to brag, but… I’m going to brag. That’s a pretty big pile of games, I must say.

In all seriousness, thank you, dear readers. You’ve helped keep me going with writing all this nonsense. I mean, I’d still probably write these reviews and whatnot even without readership, because I’m opinionated and stuff. But then I’d be like a crazy person writing all of this just for myself to read. So thanks! Your readership gives the impression that I’m not crazy. We sure fooled them good!

Thanks again, you beautiful people. Here’s to these 350 video game reviews being just the beginning! I hope you look forward for what’s in store for the Dojo, but in the meantime…
